WEMC AND ECMWF TO LAUNCH A NEW SERIES OF C3S ENERGY WEBINARS

The World Energy & Meteorology Council (WEMC) and the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) are launching a new series of webinars, aimed at sharing information and knowledge from the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) Energy project.

The first webinar in the series will focus on how we use the C3S Climate Data Store to obtain datasets for building energy indicators. It will also cover how climate data is used and the potential use of the Climate Data Store (CDS) and toolbox. Further details are provided below:

What is C3S_Energy?

The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) Energy will develop an operational climate service for the energy sector. It will develop energy indicators for electricity demand, wind power, solar power and hydro power for three streams: historical (last ca 40 years), seasonal forecasts, projections (to 2100). Corresponding relevant climate variables will be produced and made available too. The end products will be presented through a web interface or demonstrator.

The indicators developed within the C3S Energy service are based on the work of the two C3S Proof-of-Concepts (POCs) CLIM4ENERGY (C4E) and European Climatic Energy Mixes (ECEM) but also from other relevant services. These indicators will be updated accounting for latest climate data and improved methodologies to convert climate variables into energy variables.

What is the Climate Data Store (CDS)?

The Climate Data Store (CDS) provides information about the past, present and future climate, on the global, continental, and regional scale. The CDS provides an extensive collection of climate datasets, easily searchable through a catalogue. In addition, an online toolbox allows users to build workflows and applications suited to their needs.
